No Cons to These Contour Products

Contouring is a beauty phenomenon. Started by professionals, made popular by the Kardashians, and now used to transform Shawn Booth’s nose…A couple of years ago, I asked a sales girl at Sephora if they had a contouring kit and she handed me a bronzer. Today, they have store displays dedicated to the facial sculpting trend.

Of course, the amount of contouring products on the market now have overwhelmed me. I’ve tested out a handful and I’m sure I will continue to do so. Back in January my favorite contouring products were Anastasia Beverly Hills Kit and Tarte’s Sculptor. Now I feel like Anastasia’s is a bit intense for everyday life, but still great for on camera events. The Sculptor’s pigment is lacking a bit and there are similar, but more complete contour sticks out there.

What’s a more complete contour stick you ask? Well, it’s a stick that comes in a collection. Smashbox’s Step-By-Step Contour Stick Trio comes with three shades: one for highlight, one for bronzing, and one for contouring. It also comes with a very handy instruction sheet explaining where on your face to draw on each shade depending on your face shape. You can also watch this tutorial on their website. I highly recommend this product for beginners and contour-on-the-run.

The pigment is heavy, so be careful! Make sure to blend this well with your foundation before any powder is applied. My favorite part about this kit is the highlighter which brightens as well as the Perfect 365 app. To enhance this even further dust on SENNA Cosmetic’s kickass HD Eye Lift powder around your eyes.

Who needs to diet when black pants and contouring can take 10 pounds off? Till next time, #KeepKardashianing.

As a true pisces, I live in a magical and delusional land in my head. In this world romances unfold the way they do in romantic comedies, everything at Sephora is free, Shake Shake burgers are a diet food, and we have the capability to clone Harry Styles.

In real life (what's that?), I spend my days pondering how Kylie Jenner's face changed so much. I'm a beauty junkie and pop culture-loving wedding videographer and freelance journalist. I have a Princess Jasmine complex. I am a Fanson (die hard Hanson fan). I enjoy belting old Celine Dion songs.

Please take everything I say seriously (I have my Masters in journalism from Syracuse University), but not too seriously (Cosmo is my favorite publication.)

  1. While I like to claim I can contour, I really just strategically place bronzer. I would really like to learn how to REALLY do it and I think I’ll start with one of these kits. Thanks for the great post!
