Royal Crowning: Allison Williams

Screen Shot 2015-02-26 at 1.19.32 AMWhile her daddy’s out of the spotlight for a couple of months, I’m going to take the opportunity to shine it on Allison Williams.

I would stay up late daydreaming about Justin Timberlake as a 12-year-old as many other preteens did in the year 2000. I imagined we would eventually go out on dates when I was old enough (because I’m realistic like that) and on those dates I’d look like a girl who resembles Williams, who was probably also fantasizing up similar scenarios. I just wanted to look like an All-American, girl-next-door beauty who’d get pushed up against her locker and made-out with… Damnit Jade, another lifelong dream you got to live out while I sat on the couch eating corn.

In a traditional sense, if America had royalty, People Magazine would hope our princess looked like Allison Williams. Her classic, clean All-American fashion choices, Ivy league education, big blue eyes, and incredible facial structure would pair beautifully with a prince.

During the Sex and the City days, you wanted to “be” all the characters. Okay, let’s be real, no one really wants to be the Miranda of their friend group, but you know what I mean. They were all slightly messed up as we all are, but at the same time they were “fabulous.” During the current age of Girls, you don’t want to “be” any of the characters. This is because we are these characters. We don’t relate to them in ways, we relate to them in every way.

Screen Shot 2015-02-27 at 11.22.39 PMThe show Girls is almost terrifyingly realistic. We normally turn to TV as an escape from reality. While we can see ourselves in each of the Girls girls, every struggling twenty-something of today’s generation has a specific Girls character that especially represents her personality and soul. (We are all “struggling” in a first-world problems sense. We all “can’t” in someway and we all hope we survive and eventually conquer this decade of confusion.)

I am a Marnie. Marnie is played by Allison Williams for those of you who are not familiar with the HBO show and think that I’ve gone on a generational diatribe. (10-points for a Kelsey vocabulary word!) Among many other things, Marnie is vocally emotional, a control freak, image-concerned, and a future-obsessed mid-twenty something. It’s not necessarily a delightful set of characteristics, but it’s real. It’s true. Because Williams plays a character that I can related to so directly, my girl crush intensifies with every airing episode.

Thanks for representing us type-A chicks, Allison, and always looking completely put together while doing so. Us perfectionists appreciate it. We know you’ll treasure this week’s crown.

As a true pisces, I live in a magical and delusional land in my head. In this world romances unfold the way they do in romantic comedies, everything at Sephora is free, Shake Shake burgers are a diet food, and we have the capability to clone Harry Styles.

In real life (what's that?), I spend my days pondering how Kylie Jenner's face changed so much. I'm a beauty junkie and pop culture-loving wedding videographer and freelance journalist. I have a Princess Jasmine complex. I am a Fanson (die hard Hanson fan). I enjoy belting old Celine Dion songs.

Please take everything I say seriously (I have my Masters in journalism from Syracuse University), but not too seriously (Cosmo is my favorite publication.)

  1. Haha, I also would calculate how old my famous crush would be when I was old enough to date them 🙂 For me it was Antonio Banderas, and I figured a 20+ age difference was realistic
