Summer Sticks

The Orange
The Orange

From ages 16 to 25, I only used nude lip color. For some reason, a revolutionary brow wax in June 2013 really changed the game for me. My new, more structured brows allowed me to experiment with color lipstick without looking “too much.” I’ve had too much fun discovering the world of lip color this year. I enjoyed the deep, dark maroons and browns this past fall and winter, but warm and bright summer colors win. I’m terrified that we’re about midway through the summer, but before it’s too late I’m going to share my favorite summer shades.

Bobbi Brown’s Art Stick in Sunset Orange ($26): I love the way an orange/coral is more casual than a strong red lip and warms your face like a nude. I didn’t quite understand the appeal of the crayon sticks until I bought this. This smooth, creamy pencil stick really sticks to your lips. It has a heavy pigment, but

doesn’t feel heavy. It’s matte…with a subtle shine… somehow that makes sense. Bonus! No need to buy an additional lip liner, because it does that too.

Mac’s Retro Matte in Ruby Woo ($16): This shade is taking over the cosmetic world. Red lipstick intimated even me until I bought this. It’s a red that flatters all

skin tones, however, I think it works particularly well on olive and darker skin tones. It’s great with a tan. It’s sexy. It’s a classic. It’s a must buy.

Sephora’s Long-Wear Lip Color in Lilac Luster ($16): This super bright, bubble gum pink is perfect for girls’ night/ when you’re feeling Katy Perry-esque…nah, more like Nicki Minaj-esque.

Mac’s Pro Longwear in Overtime ($18):

The Date Pink

This is your light pink, date night shade. Guys aren’t scared to kiss this color. He’ll probably think your lips are just naturally this sweet shade of pink. This is my go-to because goes great with a natural eye, cat eye, smokey eye, etc.

Buxom’s True Nude Lip Foundation ($19): I bought this because my favorite nude shade always ends up being my foundation. Before this stick, I would dab foundation on my lips, line them with a nude lipliner, and put a little balm on top. I look less weird applying this lip foundation and it’s more moisturizing.

As a true pisces, I live in a magical and delusional land in my head. In this world romances unfold the way they do in romantic comedies, everything at Sephora is free, Shake Shake burgers are a diet food, and we have the capability to clone Harry Styles.

In real life (what's that?), I spend my days pondering how Kylie Jenner's face changed so much. I'm a beauty junkie and pop culture-loving wedding videographer and freelance journalist. I have a Princess Jasmine complex. I am a Fanson (die hard Hanson fan). I enjoy belting old Celine Dion songs.

Please take everything I say seriously (I have my Masters in journalism from Syracuse University), but not too seriously (Cosmo is my favorite publication.)
